Théo Métais (b. 1991, Niort, France) is a Berlin-based contemporary painter whose work explores themes of journey, impermanence, and inner transformation. With a background as a film journalist, he brings a cinematic sensitivity to his practice, drawing inspiration from animation, comics, cinema, and classical painting traditions. His ongoing series Passenger Seat reflects a quiet, contemplative gaze on transient moments.

Métais works primarily with charcoal and translucent glazes, crafting evocative atmospheres through contrast, layering, and surface manipulation. He often scratches or abrades the surface to introduce delicate shifts in light and texture, evoking movement and emotional undercurrents. His restrained, monochromatic palette reinforces a sense of introspection and subtle melancholy throughout his compositions.

He is currently an artist-in-residence at Burnt Sienna Art School. His first solo exhibition opened in Berlin in 2023, followed by his participation in Dwelling Places (2024), a group show highlighting emerging Berlin-based artists.
